A New Look

How To Prepare For Plastic Surgery

How your plastic surgery will end up looking is largely determined by how you prepare for your plastic surgery procedure. You will not only want to consult with your surgeon, but also ask for any pamphlets or other useful resources that will help you prepare.

Prepare Yourself Emotionally

It can sometimes take a long time to emotionally prepare for a cosmetic surgery. If you are ambivalent about whether you would like the procedure performed, you should wait. Otherwise, you could be anxious and this could negatively affect the outcome of the surgery.

Improve Your Diet

Long before your cosmetic procedure, you will want to have a healthy diet that includes fruits and vegetables. Otherwise, your body will not recover as fast from your surgery. But also, with many forms of cosmetic surgery, a healthy diet plays a key role in achieving the results you want. For example, if you want a flatter stomach, you will need to eat properly anyway.

Use Vitamins and Supplements

Find out if your plastic surgeon would like you to take specific pre-operative supplements or vitamins. At the very least, you will need a multivitamin. Vitamin A and Vitamin C will help you heal more quickly.

Tell Your Doctor About What You're Taking

Your doctor will need to know all of the medications that you are on because these can affect your surgery. If you are taking any medications that increase bleeding, bruising or swelling, you will want to stop taking this. Also, supplements and vitamins can affect the surgery. Talk to your doctor to determine if you are able to safely stop taking these medications. Also, if you do stop taking your medications, find out about when you can begin safely taking them again.

Clear Your Schedule

Try to clear your schedule as much as possible so that there will be no pressure for you to recover. Try to take time off from work and do not have your plastic surgery within two weeks of an important event. Also, clean your home, pay your bills ahead of time and stock up food that is easy to make.

Stop Drinking and Smoking

Do not smoke or drink alcohol three weeks before you have your procedure. Smoking constricts blood flow and slows down the healing process. Drinking can weaken your speed of healing and can also weaken your immune system. If you drink alcohol before surgery, you will be more susceptible to bleeding.

Reduce Your Sodium Intake

A week before your surgery, you will want to restrict your intake of sodium. Sodium can increase swelling. While the swelling is not necessarily dangerous, it can create discomfort. Many of these changes are changes you should commit to permanently since they will improve your health. But at the very least, you should commit to them for the duration of your recovery,
